The mystery of 'Ode to Billy Joe.'

In the 1970's, a song caught my attention called 'Ode to Billy Joe.' It was written by Bobby Gentry.

Millions of others heard its spooky tale and it immediately became controversial. †
People have wondered for over fifty years why Billy Joe Macallister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge. And what did he and the narrator of the song throw off that bridge one day? † †
† †
In 1976, it inspired a movie of the same name. † †
† †
Below, is the song with lyrics. Below that, is a guy named Bo who explains the song in the best way I've seen so far. For forty to fifty years people have wondered. But was the answer they were looking for in plain sight all along? † †
†† †
† † †(The song) †
† †
† † (The explanation).
On a side note: 'Summer, the first time' by Bobby Goldsboro also had a bit of controversy as the subjest was a 17 year-old boy having his first sexual experience with a 31 year-old.
