Lurking in The Shallows
Can't go any deeper
into a shallow puddle
of water, you can try but
then end up breaking your neck
plus the metaphorical heart cracks.
And for what?
A better look into the nothing
of your lovely abyss?
Sometimes it is just skin-deep.

Good to see you and glad to read you, tonight, nik .. As deep as a puddle and as monochrome as a shadow.... I also get a tinge of "step on a crack and break your mother's back" via the kids rhyme... it's just my musings, but I always tend to go dark, first...lol...

This is such a beautiful piece... I like how the line blurs between literal and metaphorical... And then you even go on to mention the "metaphorical heart..." That's deep. Much deeper than your literal/metaphorical puddle; and I dare say, quite "meta." ;)

I liked the title word play, along with the metaphorical diving in to break a neck.
