Image for the poem Drought

Drought

each
breath
desiccating

dry
hot
dusty

whirlwinds
lift debris
swirling

upward to
where?
heaven? oz? kansas?

existential
thirst
yearning for

torrents
and
petrichor

white
puffs
form

on horizon
virgae
tease

moisture disappeared
before
reaching earth

leaving only
wind heat
lust and

mother
nature
laughing
