Dear U,
Yes, some days it does seem easier to lay down and call it quits. I can appreciate this concept on so many levels.
Poetically I love the image of a sea of trees. It feels inviting and as your reader reads on I love the twist of moving forward and into the cold. Difficult topic very well written. H🌷

this was laden with darkness in only such a few words which took me back quite a bit
i think nature has that strange way of overtaking a mind and a body and you can't put your finger on it, sometimes it's just there and can be impossible to ignore— the title alone echoed a lot of imagery from canto xiii in dante aligheri's inferno as the place is set in a woodland where those who committed murder of the self were sent and became a tree, also on a lighter note the idea of returning back to nature is undoubtedly a beautiful and peaceful image, that we as human beings are still useful for something even if our spirit has move on to another world
there were a lot of pathways to take in this little snippet which that in itself makes this poem all the more thought provoking
thank you for sharing 🙂

Ethan, thank you for your detailed comment. I appreciate the care that you have taken here, appreciate your references, and viewpoints here, much of which resonates with me. Poem is inspired by the Aokigahara in Japan, also knows as 'The Sea of Trees', also known as 'Suicide Forest' as individuals find their way there to leave this planet in their own way. Remaining as close to nature, eventually returning, is a strong force in my world.
In particular touched by your details, coming from a strong poet, such as yourself.
Hope that you're having a great weekend.
I appreciate you,
ursa 💜

Re. The Sea of Trees
"like a fossil tree
whence we gather no flowers
sad has been my life
fated no fruit to produce
earthen taste of life's last breath"
(death Tanka composed by Minamoto Yorimasa, immediately before his act of seppuku in the Byodo-in temple of Uji)
Stunning, Ursa ⛩️
By virtue of your words' ethereally gentle solace, one's spirit is swept into your ambient moment's peaceful countenance ⁓ soft as a faint whisper into the ear of a tranquil, subsiding heart.
I think I've just heard your soul's most beguilingly personal soft breath.
Thank you for sharing You, Lady Ursa ⁓ Richard 🍃
