Direct Experience

Reading scriptures and holy books
Doesn't always equate
To making progress
On the Friend spiritual path homeward.

Scriptures and holy books
Like road signs
Do point the way to the Friend -
But, all the same
Will not take you to Him.

However -

When your inner eye is opened

And -

You see the light of the Friend
Radiating within you

And -

When your inner ear is opened

And -

You hear the music (word)
Of the Friend -
This direct experience
Of the light and sound
Is a remembrance
That you will never forget.

And -

Will only grow
Sweeter and sweeter
The more you meditate.

Dearest Pilgrim,

Have you seen this light?
Have you heard this music?

Or -

Are you still searching
In the outer world
For love and bliss?
