Spinning Wheel

Wisdom gained is
innocence lost.
He who seeks truth
always pays a high cost.
For hearts are deceitful,
they tell such sweet lies...
Love conquers all they shout,
there's no such thing as goodbye.
Emotions are a temptress,
desire a snare,
one leads us to our doom,
the other strips us bare.
The mind is a dark pit
hiding all manner of monsters inside,
we give our all to slay the beasts
all the while feeding our biggest one;
PRIDE.
We spend our finite existence racing
trying to always be first in line,
never enjoying the moment we're in
too afraid of falling behind.
Fate may be our mistress,
but she's a fickle friend.
Don't you know that her spinning wheel
crushes us all in the end?
