Beautiful Dark
As it is written,
"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood."
But in this telling,
no thought is given
to would, could, or should.
For she has many times before,
travelled this same path...
danced within the fire,
bathed herself with ash,
delighted in the darkness,
reveled in it's wrath.
She pauses only briefly
at those 'ole crossroads
dark and light,
she's wistful for a moment
contemplating which is right.
Suddenly she turns sharply left,
gazes into endless night.
A smiling shadow then emerges,
licking his lips suggestively,
the yearning in her surges,
she has no chance now to flee.
Eyes shining he steps towards her,
boldly draws a line upon the sand.
She steps over it without an ounce of fear,
no trepidation
as she snatches up his hand.
With a smile upon her face
and pure terror in her heart,
she lovingly wraps her arms around her demon,
they slip away into beautiful dark.
