My Heaven Into My Hell

I'm a foodie
Always was
When I was young
That wasn't a problem
I played a lot of basketball
Tennis
Baseball
Then softball
Even played in a volleyball league
But as you get older
Things change
When I was young
I worked at a restaurant
I was a curb waiter
I would run to each car
Carrying a tray
At a sprint
A waitress there
Asked to watch me eat
Told me she had never seen
Anyone
Who enjoyed food as much
As I did
But
That was when I was young
When I was young
My first wife couldn't cook
She tried
She failed
She did other things well
Very well
Then we age
I grew up
Basketball changed
I stopped playing
Couldn't find opponents
On the tennis courts
Then divorce
I fell in love with a cook
Didn't know it when
I fell in love
Suddenly I was in heaven
She loved
That I loved food
She did too
For over thirty years
I've been her Guinea pig
She is the best cook
In the world
My life is more sedate
Than it was
Soo...
I got fat
Then came the one word
Every foodie dreads
The diagnosis
DIABETES
I'm barely over the line
But I am
So I must make changes
I'm not dealing with it well
That one word
Has changed my heaven
To my hell
