And The Winner Is...
coffee dark as pitch blends
with cream so heavy
it can’t be poured
planted
in favorite wicker rocker
gently creaking
today’s show begins
in the east
cloudless
orange sky
long shadows
transforming
gray to yellows and reds
father sun
peeks
over the horizon
single pyrrhuloxia
takes a dip
in concrete birdbath
pair of quail
scratch searching
for seed in gravel
cottontail nibbles
orange mallow
and tender grass
roadrunner
hunts yellow striped
lizards hunting bugs
pink and yellow
gazanias
begin to unfurl
snapdragons
and marigolds
displaying true colors
flashes of red
in emerald crown
accented by cardinal song
buzz of honeybees
punctuated by hummingbirds’
aerial acrobatics
this morning
should be nominated
for a few oscars
best picture...
best actors...
best costumes...
best screenplay...
best soundtrack...
award competition
is fierce
with each new dawn
