Image for the poem Kali Ma

Kali Ma

In the hollow of an empty tree
we found her, wings clipped
scalped though ever still flowing
her night shaded hair

ominating omen
octopus orb
none can feel
the iron

when
it melts
the shackles
from your
lotus
feet

fearlessly
divided
is where
we part
into mercy
and
merciless
hunger

when
these
hands

are the only hands
stretching around
crooked rooked
blood boiling
steam

where Kali Ma
sees beyond
ugliness
and
beauty

the warm arm
of a mother
embraces
me

Kali or Kali ma is made into a fearsome goddess, this is my version of her.
