The light beneath the dark

Pebbles crowd beside a tranquil ocean,
a mumbling carpet of reality
sharp beneath moon-pale feet.
My clothes look curled-up,
almost asleep as they glance back at me.

I swallowed and spoke water, its gasp
held my lungs, hungry
for a taste, understanding my intention,
smooth surfaces carried me deeper,
fingers gentle as water boatmen's legs.

I could feel the pressure compressing,
chest, breathless as it began to trust her.
What took you so long? she said,
throwing her head back, submerged,
only tiptoed to pull me under.

I floated face down inside all the words
they don't write any more,
an endless black symphony
of songs no one has sung since.
My engine cut, drifting ever so silent
below the melancholy of nostalgia.

Eyes held by Ludovico technique,
forcing me to watch my horror
right to the end of the real, it was then
I saw a burst of light rise beneath me
the rush of escaping air, winded
by the blue bottlenose nudging
me to the surface gasping out
to swallow whole moonlights
burning out the void from my lungs,
I crawled out of her song,
exhausted, I lay down with my clothes
until I could speak sunlight.
