ternion

an octet medley

1. secrets
a rhymed, mirrored octet

you
keep mine;
safe with me
are your secrets.
in full confidence,
everything prudential
that your spirit wills to me
shall a bond of peace, forever,
stake a claim that naught can sever,
though the waters leave the sea
in life's consequential
discombobulence.
humble regrets
bend the knee:
divine,
true.

2. regrets
a rhymed, mirrored octet

you
admit
retrospect
is the father
of your vain regrets.
yesterday's commitments
are fleet shadows in the sun,
for the charms of early splendour
soon to bitterness s u r r e n d e r.
would that life could be undone,
for whims and convenience
all my cares and frets
made the harder!
true respect-
remit
due.

3. egrets
a rhymed, mirrored octet

white
herons,
plumage-buff,
breeding-season
wading  water  birds.
miles of legs, the standing
o r d e r   of   the   g e n u c i d e.
suzuki-swift   t h e   s-shaped  n e c k
that swallows every fish-steak speck.
and when claws and bills collide
on the food-chain landing,
buffalos  in  herds
finding reason
not to bluff,
summons
light.
