A memory of GF

In the subtle opulence of an Oxford Autumn
long ago,
beneath the dreaming spires
and the ancient arches carved from golden stone
I was then for a span of time
made alive
by you,
by the singularity
of you,
by the longing for the press of my embrace
that was often achingly displayed
within your eyes,
upon your mouth,
and with your touch
and by (I sigh to think of it)
the question that you asked
one silvered night
while gasping so excitedly inside my arms
oh if I really knew how much
you utterly adored me.
Yes, it was
because of you
that I became awake
to the world’s capaciousness,
and the roiling
possibility for grace
that I had rarely known
before you fixed yourself
within my life
when you
were there by choice with me
all urgency
for a short
but gloried span of days
in Oxfordshire
at Trinity.
