THE PIGEONHOLE COMPLEX

WHERE?

Poets have, as a whole,
an amazing ability
to venture into worlds
of fantasy, make-believe,
dark, sexual differences,
dreams, anger, historical
backgrounds and moments.
Some poems are self-revealing
while other poems are fiction.
Through the years I have
noticed, as well as being
the recipient of, the practice
by readers to place poets
in pigeonholes and boxes.
WHY?
It's the failure, I believe,
to separate the poet, who
is rarely known face-to-face
if passed on the street,
from the poems.
As a "poet" I have the
freedom to cover every
subject as I choose. Just
because I am a "dog" in
a poem doesn't mean I am a dog.
Just because I'm a male in a poem
doesn't mean I am, and so it is
with being a  female character
in a poem.
OH,
just some ideas. I really
don't care if you pigeonhole
me. As long as I know
who and what I am, that's
all that matters to me. The
wonder of FREEDOM.
Uuuuum, what or whom shall I be
in my next poem? What may, or
may not be,  in my sexual
remarks in my poems?
To suck or be sucked;
to be on top or bottom.
In all cases, I am free to
write my own inspirations.
And how about
YOU?
And please don't fall into
the trap of pigeonholing
yourself or others.
