Papa Taught Me

I loved my Momma as much as any growing boy can
But Papa taught what's important
Papa taught me how to be a man
He showed me everyday by living his life right
He went to work every morning
And was there to tuck me in at night

My papa told me, "young'un,
Always strive to do what's right
Try not start an argument
But don't shy from a fight
A man that don't stand for nothing
Ain't no man at all
Stand up for what you believe in
Stand straight and stand tall

A man takes care of his family
He always does what's best
He works hard every single day
When you're in heaven you can take a rest
One these days your Ma and me
Will pass through heavens gates above
You need to know we won't be done with you
You'll always feel our love
