A Melody of Prayers

Writing you again
My heart is like a bottle lost at sea
Words spoken to the void
The space that resides between where I am and where I long to be

Every word a line to heaven
Following in the footsteps of your legacy
Your wisdom echoes, outlining the way
As you speak inside my memory

A part of you still lives here
Taking up residence in my mind
If ever their was a hero of the faith
I want you to know that you are mine

Caught up in the relapse of post traumatic ache
You were part of what held me together
Now I live with this heartbreak

You were a minister in everything that you did
Even in your heart warming smile
Yet I knew you in ways that no one else would
Because I was your child

Looking back I think of the ways that you were there
Like when I was a toddler and I fell down the stairs
And you picked me up and cradled me in that rocking chair
As you hummed worship songs over me like a melody of prayers

And furthermore I remember the years that you raised us on your own
Despite the ways that we were broken, your love still made it home

No one knows the weight of all that we went through
The day our world came crashing down and everything landed on you

Yet prior still I think of the way you took the stage
To lead a procession of worshipers in the boldness of faith
In the story of your life, your heart's on every page
The way you stood for what you believed in and always kept us safe

I remember when I was committed to the hospital
Amidst my dark and clouded point of view
You were beside me through it all
Every shadow diminished by the light of you...
