As if Dreaming was New
I
I can feel the soul falling out of my eyes.
I do not care if the sun does not rise,
I’d still give you a rose that will not wilt.
And the Heaven I wish we had built
I can feel the sun setting inside my head.
I do not care if I never go to bed…
I’d still dream as if dreaming was new—
As if dreaming could bring me to you,
Now dreaming is all I can do.
II
Yesterday there was sunshine
When you might have been mine.
When your kiss was not a memory—
Your love might have been for me.
Fool that I am, I say, “I love you.”
Love as deep as the sky is blue,
And all the dreams I have to give
(If you’d only teach me to live)
I would lay them at your door
With my heart and so much more
Than even gods may grace
To see the smile on your face.
You are the reason there is day,
But I fear you will not stay.
You are the reason love is free,
But you never could love me.
