Image for the poem acappella songs

acappella songs

or songs unwed

my muted flute
internally weeps melodies;
externally steep maladies
would feign impute

all life is dead.
silence is not the end of strife,
nor violence the trend of life
for songs unwed.

sotto voce
songs orphaned from the stem of true
antiphony find rendezvous
en la noche.

no aperture
for guitar harmonies in train,
choked on the tablature terrain,
or ligature

taut with the will
to ransom plectrum cordophone
from songs that choose to ride alone,
sans ornate quill.

tombora days
enrage the pulse of random blues
that naked, solemn pigments bruise
into malaise.

cappella hymns
love’s fullest reach may never know,
pampered by sacrosanct tableaux
and sentient whims.

orchestral suites
sonata-weaned of liturgies
expose fleeting hostilities
on lyric streets.
