A Day dies in the city

Ravens fly over rivers of filth
Over steel serpents
Heavy metal horses
Over and up the tower to roost

The day is dead, the night alive
Above the line sleeping sweet
Below the line screaming raw

The old man on the corner
Waiting for a bag of brown
Smiling in the dark
As night lingers on
Rain falls into sticky sludge
He gets his bag
Asleep before the dawn

Worn out lovers lay together
Only the early hours are left
Before the madness of another day
