I AM A POEM

I am a poem,
I have been around
since the dawn
of civilization carved
on rock, animals skins,
and parchment.
I have escaped from
the hearts of Kings
as well as paupers.
I have spoken and penned
in every know language.
I have created love, anger,
frustration and stimulated
the imagination of young and old.

I AM A POEM.

I don't need to be justified,
explained, or camouflaged.
I strike nerves, soothe souls,
and mend relationships.
I can speak in a vocabulary
that causes people to "pretend
they are smart as they
try to interpret me"
I mean what I say!

I AM A POEM.

I have no barriers,
limitations, secrets, or
hidden agendas. I am real.
I am a voice for the silent,
blind, oppressed, and
those who sleep in the streets
and in mansions. I am
no respecter of persons.

I AM A POEM.

Whether or not you
like me is none of my business.
I am a friend to the friendless,
hope for the hopeless and
a lover of the outcasts.

I AM A POEM.

I am a counselor, priest, lover,
lawyer, friend, companion,
teacher, guide, motivator,
foe, entertainer, challenger.
I am never unemployed and
every day have a new adventure
with my alphabet friends and
call for a new voice. I am amused,
abused, and used every day
which is okay. That's how
I am heard. Are YOU listening?
