First Day
Today is the first day of Ramadhan
The day is peaceful and calm
There is a stillness in the house and outside
Everyone is resting except those who aren't fasting
Even the cats are not making any sound
I can't see them around
I am not able to render my fast on this first day for an excusable reason
And decided to do the laundry
The air is cool outside
Only the sound of birds can be heard
Their tweeting seem louder today
Amplified by the silence
A small bird accidentally finds its way to our room through an open window
It is hopping from place to place
Then flies around looking for escape
It seems desperate to get out
It is restlestly flying and hopping in the wire
It flies away after finding the crack in the glass transom above the window
With a hole the size of a fist
That a tiny bird can pass through
The day goes by silently
Until it is time to prepare Iftar

What a lovely peek into your day. Filled with appreciation and a sense of peace. I also learned a new word “ Iftar”. May I ask, does this meal consist of particular foods for the first day? I wondered because we do the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. Anyway, your poem is lovely as usual. H🌷

Thank you dear H for your comment. I appreciate your support. As to your question, there is no particular meal for Iftar we can prepare any food we like but it is preferred to break our fast with dates and milk as practiced by the Prophet in his time.
