STARSHINE

A pale imitation
Embedded in kinetic sand
And putty the kids play with
Or the sparkles on your eyelids
Your sweater and handbag
The day we met
Adornments meant
To draw the eye
And stoke whatever embers
There may be
But I recognize the real stuff
Deeper in your irises
Your pupils
The nigh upon endless
Sand at the beach
The moon on the water
Not the glow of the city
But the holes punched
In the far away sky
Portals to what is
And ever was
