Daydreamed about Putting Gum in Her Hair

This piece instantly reminded me of 8th grade. I was friends with a girl who wasn't always a very good friend. One day she came to school and spent all of the hours leading up to lunch bragging about her jelly filled twinkie and how she was the first to have them at school (they were indeed new). By lunch I was pretty well sick of listening to her so when she pulled it out of the wrapper and put it up to her mouth to take a bite, I reached across the table and smashed it in her face. Needless to say she didn't speak to me for like 2 weeks. But I didn't care. She never brought those twinkies for lunch again.

I'm glad that you and your bubble gum girl became friends. Sometimes we don't realize how broken other people are on the inside. And that they are just like us. Great piece of nostalgia.

I was in detention a lot that year. My best friend, Josh and I got into a lot of trouble for things like lighting smoke bombs in the bathroom. We took a class trip that year to Chicago and took Amtrak to get there. On the way back we got into a fist fight (over twinkie girl pouring soda on his head while he was sleeping: he thought I did it). We were supposed to be suspended the final few days of school, but the principal changed his mind. I was the class president so I had to give my farewell address at our graduation ceremony. Many teachers said we were the worst class to come through that tiny private school :D

Being the worst is sometimes a distinction....

Oh ... this took me back ... to classmates whose zenith was high school ... who are now miserable ... this also reminds me that we have no idea what people are going thru in the struggle called life ... thanks for reminding of that ...

I could not wait to get out of high school and forget the entire mess.
Rode to my graduation on my cousin's motorcycle in my cap and gown.  Listened to a bullshit speech by the school's principal on leading a moral life, got my diploma and left fast
Irony: the principal was soon thereafter busted on a morals charge ....

Oh boy! going to take everyone back to high school with this one. You really got me with the bubble gum in the long blonde hair. I think I will have nightmares about that now. Truly evil. lol Anything but that... ;) I can identify with the she was broken inside. Never smoked cigarettes but I would cut class for the coffee or... other stuff. :p

And she was pretty cool once I got to know her. The beauty thing was a real burden for her ...

Now I want some sadistic bedtime stories. The beauty thing can be a real burden; if anything it probably increases the chances of very bad things happening to someone so being broken is no surprise either.

I've never had the burden of beauty but I can tell you I looked mighty fine in a double breastfed suit with a classic polkadot dot tie and French cuff shirt with cuff links from my corporate days back when.
I remember walking down the street and getting a lot of attention and while it was great it made me wonder about the burden  of it.
Soon thereafter I ditched that life and just started wearing a lot of black like other NYC Misfits

it was fun to write and mostly all true.  
I never really thought about sniffing glue because too many kids really got messed up doing that.  Even i could understand that wasn't cool ....

It amazes me how I've become friends with some people who were dicks back in school (not saying your blond was a dick, but it just made me think of it). At some point you realize we were just all people trying to figure shit out...
Glad you didn't do the evil gum thing though. 🙂

High School was a bad scene for me
Life afterwards was much better though still a cluster...

I sat in front of a guy I liked, could hear him chuckling during class in 10th grade.  He was really friendly so I thought he liked me too.  I later found out from a girlfriend who knew him that he was a total stoner and that explained how friendly he was.  It was an irony.  Learned a lot from that one.

If i could go back to those high school years and do it all over again, I wouldn't.....

I was glad to get out of there and move on to other disasters.  It was that bad !!!  But, that said, there were a few people who believed in me so this story emerged out of those memories

It's interesting because there are times we are drawn toward others who may be just like us on the inside.
Excellent reflective write sir. If we only knew then what we know lots of things could have been avoided, but that's some of life's lesson.
