Watching Sunrise

helicopters flying passed
moving through the air so fast
in the valley where I sit
watching sunrise now that it

rises from behind a wall
of Martian cliffs which are so tall
in Marineris, now my home
until again I leave to roam

the Galaxy, at least nearby
when Sirius calls me from the sky
or Proxima and Planet B
or Barnard's Star, it could be the

brave new world of which I've dreamt
far from Mars to which I'm sent
to discover and explore
to encounter more and more

sunrises and too sunsets
beings too that I've not met
communicating mind to mind
to telepathically unwind...

on a hillside at the dawn
there's a chance to be reborn
different worlds and strange new stars
before returning home to Mars
