Betrayed by a friend
Once upon a time there was a little girl,
She was as innocent and sweet as a buttercream swirl.
One day she was admiring a flower poking through a crack in the side walk,
She was as captivated by it as jack was with the bean stalk.
As pure and innocent as she was it soon came to an end,
When her soul was crushed by someone she once called friend.

Dear M,
Hidden behind the upbeat rhythm of a rhyme is a huge and painful message. How delicate innocence really is. Once gone there’s no getting it back and that is such a sadness. Your poems always take my breath away by how powerful they are in such brevity. I’m taking notes but I’m pretty sure I won’t ever hit the stride you make so innately. H 🌷

These setbacks are supposed to toughen us up, some say.
I realise that does not work for everyone & it depends on the circumstances of course, as one size does not fit all.
Some even build a protective wall around themselves to avoid future hurt.
