Betrothal of paper ceiling hearts (as decorations to appease)

I remember shadowed
                                       catastrophic
                                                             warmth,
leisurely peeking,

cutting through
                            the
                                  tree
                                         line
                                               overhead;
we blink to bed.

fatally wounded,

we hung you
                        upside down
to dry ,
shriveled in your
                             memories.

we awoke as ash and crumbled fragments
