This could be your end.
How long can you hold the expectations of victory?
Pure this is the purest.
For a few moments you are not yourself.
How hard you trained will mark the success of your expression.
This is how we feed the animal.
Or allow our demons to swim.
This is release.
This is why I’m forever married to the arena.

There’s something very visceral in this piece that speaks to me on a different level than the normal poem. The “this is how we feed the animal” line speaks so strongly of passion. And not just any old passion — but raw, unfiltered human grit.
Loved the punches in this one. Excuse the pun.
