SUDDEN CHANGE OF SEASONS (11-27-2002, Galveston Island, Texas)
a cold front suddenly
popped down
overnight
sticking its frigid
nose
into late novembers
business
two weeks of radiant
blue sky
joy
now completely devoured
by mauling roar
of last nights
howling north
winds
now this cold damp
slab
of concrete gray
encases and dulls
what only
yesterday
was raging beauty
of all those
autumn
leaves
which filled and
waved
in every tree
changing colors
set ablaze
in spectral dance
of chlorophylls
fade
into countless
perfect
jewels
all fallen now
to cold wet
ground
from cold fronts
sudden
unseen nocturnal
passage
which ravaged
across this island
town
all through
the huddled sleeping
night
their once fiery
bleeding
colors
so quickly muted
now
detached and gone
but not
forgotten
till falls return
brings them back
around
again
next year
just as all those
blue sky
days
of yesterdays
bright lights subdued
idyllic
grace
are now bleached
down
to gray as
well
along with most
other
signs of vibrant
life
now likewise
too
all swallowed up
here today
into the freezing
belly
of this cold
wet
beastly
grave like
day
where gazing
out my icy
window
upon first waking
this morning
at the sight of
all these wind
blown
tree tops
cold shivering
now barren naked
branches
they hypnotically
swayed me so gently
away in return
into this now
grateful
shift of my initially
startled
perceptions
off into this
soft
trance like
daydream
of sweetly surrendered
release
back into simple
acceptance
through peaceful
reflection
brought on and
arisen
up through this
startlingly sudden
transitions
stark change of
seasons
so dramatically
befallen upon us
quite literally
overnight
delivering me
to a place
here
now
in my heart and
mind
where to my
humbled
surprise
im already beginning
to see and
feel
so much raw
natural
beauty and grace
now being
revealed
to me here
in these cold north
winds
frigid
howling dance
outside
through both the
transitional lense
of this
icy
cold glass
window
and the transcendent
lense
of my adaptively
mutable
mind
