I Never Got Clean For You
I wrote a song before you came home
I never showed it to anyone
Even though I probably should have
And I still remember the beginning of the first verse
“I’m getting clean for you”
You know I wanted to get clean again
So goddamn desperately
And you know, if I did we could be happy
I did it once before
I can do it again
But I didn’t
And I just wanted to say that I’m sorry
Because I never got clean for you
Like I wanted to do so desperately
And Maybe One Day
I’ll shed this stupid body
Let my rotting skin fall to the floor
Then grow big and tall, be someone new
When I do, please come and find me
But until then I’ll be missing for a while

I loved the bravery of this. It felt very fluid. I noticed in your profile you spoke of doing spoken word and that flow kind of comes through in your words here. Living the introspection of this. It all feels very real.
