On Scarlet Soil

- On Scarlet Soil -

It was night, or as close to night as one canst ever imagine,
And the skies grew darkly clouded, as the storms so came...
From eldritch climes, sent by forces beyond old time itself.
Blood red, the clouds turned, like some slaughtered thing...
Reminders of the four blood moons, and then fell the rain.
Many feared that lunar cycle, which crept forth with stealth!
I recall the eve well, that summertime, and what it meant...
Signs, omens, and portents from a discordant realm so near.
I felt the power that was unleashed, and knew it so familiar!
The sky appeared on fire, briefly but as if Hell so gave vent.
If an ordinary human saw this, they would know such fear...
But it was I who bore witness, and I who felt what dist stir!

Within the darkness, I beheld black-robed faceless shapes...
My old retainers, from the realms whence came the red hue.
Gently floating upon the air betwixt and between dark trees,
Whilst time seemed to cease, without a single hour's lapse...
Their voices whispers, telling me of things that must ensue.
Fearful children wouldst on hearing fall to their very knees!
I am a different sort of child, and in darkness I am at home...
For therein lies safety and comfort, the embraces of my kin.
Within the chaos of the domains where madness canst rise!
Our castles built on scarlet soil beneath the planetary dome,
Though twisted, were raised with honor, never mortal sin...
Their dark opulence made majestic beneath our alien skies!

And, the pale maiden walked with the wraiths so beautiful...
Calling and beckoning to me, to join her in her celebrations.
As of old I didst, when our eyes beheld an Earth born new!
The land all about was silent, even crickets became so still...
That it was as if the world had ended, in the dark jubilation.
I took her by the hand, and the crimson darkness I so knew!
We sang of fire, and we blazed from within with such heat,
That was of our innermost spirits' natures; a sacred mystery.
My wings emerged, of shadow and of light together mixed!
And I was carried off, to where once we so raised our seat,
There to partake of the sublime nature of infernal company.
Even if the Earth didst perish that place wouldst hold bliss!

When the night faded we returned from those lofty reaches,
Racing the rising dawn to encase ourselves in familiar skin.
However limited such modeled forms may be to our hearts!
For subtlety is needed, when the call of life thus beseeches,
And my wings return to their place in my spirit deep within.
At least until when next from this body my soul so departs!
