Lost & Wanting
A little girl
She likes to help
Just as they taught her
Picked it up quite naturally
The desire to please
She tends her bears & dollies
They are hers to look after
And hers alone
Mother and Father gone
Or at least too far away
Now it is her responsibility
To keep things going
Be there for them
In all their hours of need
And legitimate longing
They will do her well
Those bears & dollies
Make a parent of her
A respectable citizen
At the very least
She washes Big Boy’s feet
As the other Mary did
A few disciples look on
Maybe a Pharisee or two
Hers is sponge not hair
And antiseptic not oils
But she wears the same smile
Of the Magdalene
Of the little girl
She likes to help
She likes to help
Just as they taught her
Picked it up quite naturally
The desire to please
She tends her bears & dollies
They are hers to look after
And hers alone
Mother and Father gone
Or at least too far away
Now it is her responsibility
To keep things going
Be there for them
In all their hours of need
And legitimate longing
They will do her well
Those bears & dollies
Make a parent of her
A respectable citizen
At the very least
She washes Big Boy’s feet
As the other Mary did
A few disciples look on
Maybe a Pharisee or two
Hers is sponge not hair
And antiseptic not oils
But she wears the same smile
Of the Magdalene
Of the little girl
She likes to help
