The Ever Growing Tree

Verse 1:

What is it we're searching for,
That goal we never quite reach?
While all the while life's movin' on,
I get behind and put upon.
Why do we have to grow old and die?
Where I'm content where I lie.
This live and die, it's not for me,
I don't want it, can't you see!
I'm not happy in the now,
Knowing time's fading away somehow.

Verse 2:

Looking back, I had the knack,
No problems or responsibilities.
Every day was full of fun,
But only on reflection.
Lately I have come undone,
Looking for somewhere to run.
At the time, it didn't feel right,
Even then I felt uptight!

So where do I stand, not sure but sad,
Fearing I've had the best of it.
Still searching for life and trying to climb,
Still hoping to reach higher to find,
The fruit that's there on the ever growing tree.

Verse 3:

Life has changed a lot just now,
It's not how I remember it.
Should've hung on to all before,
But needed someone to grab my hand.
Like the stuff that fills time's hour glass,
I couldn't quite grip the sinking sand.
