the lonely garden

It bleeds through
filters down
covers me in its desolation

All the sunlight is grey
and the trees are dying
in slow motion

I feel at one with them
this slow death
I can't see an end to

You don't know me
in this place
this lonely garden
of grass and one dying tree
that I lie under
staring up at grey filtered sunlight

You cast shadows
when all I want is the light
grey and dull as it is

Beneath this tree
there is only room for one
and everything about you
in unwanted

There is freedom in this prison
I've built myself
it's in the silence
and you make so much noise
that my throat cracks
with all the nothingness I can't say

Because there are no words here
only dimly lit silences
that wait for us to let go
and see what blooms
