THINGS THAT CAN'T BE RECALLED

LESSON

A wise philosopher,
wish I knew his name,
once wrote:
"There are three
things which cannot
be recalled or once
again had:
A spent
arrow once it has
left the bow.
A once in a lifetime
opportunity that
has been spurned.
And a word hastily
spoke, once it leaves
your lips it can't be
retrieved to your mouth."
I was thinking this third
one is also true relative
to written words that have
been launched by the send
or print button.
I am under a new vow
to be more guarded in my
choice of words and context
in which they are sent forth.
I can send a package to London
and what I sent will arrive
just as I sent it: The book  sent
is the book that arrives.
I can send a word with how
I meant it and as it goes through
the receivers decoding process,
based on their understanding,
definitions, and experiences it
may be interpreted differently.
So, I'm going to guard myself
and what I send forth. I will TRY,
no, I WiLL do better, no
I AM doing better.
Confession is good for the soul:
Sister Mary was right.
