Poetess Amanda Gorman, Youth Poet-Laureate    
   
true writers  
         are fighters  
                  whose mitres,  
                        like lighters,  
                                 are righters  
                                       of wrongs.  
   
the poets  
         who know it  
                  bestowest  
                        the truest  
                                 and newest  
                                       of songs  
   
for the heart  
         torn apart  
                  by the dart  
                        of the tart  
                                 counterpart.  
                                       their tongues  
   
sympathise  
         with the sighs  
                  and the cries  
                        that reprise  
                                 to chastise  
                                       the throngs.  
   
every bard  
         is a guard  
                  of the scarred  
                        who've been charred  
                                 by time’s hard-  
                                       knock gongs.  
   
lyricists  
         (alchemists!)  
                  clear the mists  
                        of the dissed  
                                 who’ve been pissed  
                                       daylong.
