SILENT SCREAMING  (4-18-1990, North Park, San Diego, California)

without a car
i drive
that stretch
of my twisted
imagination
to a place
just far enough
away
where i
can see
more clearly
the nightmare
edges
of my lifes
unfulfilled
unrequited
incomplete
broken dreams
as i park
my grievous hearts
dying embers
in the darkness
right next to
this smoldering
ghost heap
of all my
lingering
vanquished hopes
its flickering
sparks
so dim now
yet still
they haunt
my way enough
that no one
other than me
can even
faintly hear
much less ever
feel
the subtle
inner
silent screams
of its surrendered
frequent release
spontaneously expressed
though only
thinly captured here
in these
small handful
of insufficient
feeble
fallen
impressionistic
words
