Hindsight
Close-enough for government work
but too far enough from the thin blue line,
that is where I was during twenty-twenty;
nothing of note to look back on
somewhat a time of good work ruined.
So in answer to
'what did you do in 2020?'
- I survived
while others didn't,
but simply a human being was never quite enough for me.
Seems a waste to be a mere monkey
behind the screen
while fools fret and fume in the limelight
governed by close-mindedness.

... and you know what? That’s perfectly OK. I think a lot of people put a huge pressure on themselves to make something of themselves with their time in a bad year.
I think I hibernated rather than survived.

It is a phrase perfect for social media: pithy enough to be adequate, and it is enough to survive sometimes. Yet other times fundamental survival just seems a bit lacklustre: nothing more than time wasted in the face of opportunities.

your first stanza although it is true for many people at the moment, it also underlying reminded me of how we are more than the work we arrive to every day without fail, it gave me some hope that mindsets may change once all this madness is over and take in the things that are important to us whatever they may be

My hope is that when all this passes and is over, health and social care workers will be able to enjoy a long rest and get treated like minor celebrities! All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy as the saying goes.
