THE NINTH LIFE

THE NINTH LIFE

The creature ran out into the road,  a sprinting shadow of charcoal leaps into the darkness. I saw a mere glimpse of three leaps before it was seen by the edge of the headlight beams.
"NO! NO!!  NOooo!!!!!! " I yelled out from the passenger seat before this creature vanished from sight.

THUD!!!!!!!!

   "Just keep driving Dianne"
   "What?"
"YOU just hit a cat, just go, don't look back."
   "That was a cat?"
"I saw him running out in the road at the last minute, you didn't, Its not your fault, just go on. Neither one of us can deal with this shit right now."

Now, I love animals, and this kind of shit really fucks with me.
And will probably fuck with me for awhile. Most people don't realize how intelligent most animals are. I struggled to deal with this tragedy this evening, by reading various news articles about politics, science, and such, with second-screen playing in the background.

I was contemplating the fact that many humans have been shut in
their homes recently, and perhaps disturbing the lifestyle of their pet cats.
Staying at home and arguing while keeping these independent creatures
locked away as well, and so I thought, maybe to simply ease my mind,
one final theory........

.....Maybe, just maybe, Dusty made a breakaway through the back door.
and ran for its life to die.  For an intelligent cat to run out in front of an obvious approaching vehicle appears to me to be very similar to an intelligent human being leaping from a very tall building
