Cops & Robbers
Have you ever seen strange fruit, in a suit, dangling from a tree?
Have you seeked the truth, instead of being aloof, about our history?
O' say can you see, with your mind's wide eye, why I wanna fly?
Rather than being a caged bird observed by the eyes in the sky
As doves cry, I covet their asset of soaring
For under my feet, there's liability in living
'Cause their lie abilities exceed comprehension
And they always seem to get a paid vacation
In the equation, execution's considered justified
'Cause their crew bring revenue that's blue check verified
I can't hide, nor deny, the disdain flowing in my veins
For many things they've done has inflicted grave pains
Say their names!!!; Sandra Bland & Breonna Taylor
It's to a point where there're too many to remember
Dear officers, can you please stop adding to the list?
The psychological trauma is making it hard to exist
Can you resist the temptation of your hair triggers?
Can you resist looking at US all as violent n!gg3r$?
Oops, I mean offenders. Please excuse my Freudian slip
Y'all bang for your blue set harder than the hardest Crip
Take a sip from your chalice as you consume all of this
We mean know harm. We're tired of raising our fist
We're pissed about how there's no accountability
And 'cause this deadly cycle has been our history
Convincing me that things are never going to change
Even Dracula took a reprieve from using his fangs
Dang man, what's it going to take for you to do the same?
We no longer wanna play in this Cops & Robbers game

Great question to ponder. I'd say that fear is the highest form of respect that one can receive. One who fears you is less likely to cross you.

It IS a great question. John Lewis said the same of love you said of fear. His was the fear of God maybe, which adds respect to fear and comes out love.

I'm not well versed on Molon Labe. You've given me something to research. The disproportionate number of non whites in prison or in their graves by way of a cop's gun answers your question though. I know it was a rhetorical question.

Some of your best work here. 'We mean know harm...' sweet play on words/double entendre. Reading your poems does more to fill me with partial understanding that brings empathy than any news editorial ever could.

That 5th stanza was hard. Yes, it feels like they're a gang, with a badge, so they can get away with a bunch of crap. It's frustrating to keep seeing this happen on the news.
