The Alternate Path Bleeding Through

There are moments, seconds really
Where I feel the cold touch of knowledge
Of knowing our children will never exist
And I see them so clearly in my mind
In a second my brain has created a little girl
Her hair in braids and her bright dark eyes
And then she fades away like a ghost
A perfect little vision, a bleed through
From a time when our love won the war
All the little boys and girls my mind reveals
In the seconds that I remember I had it
That urge to create a being half you, half me
Once spending hours looking up skin tone names
Tree names like dark pearwood, walnut and oak
Sweet names of caramel, chocolate, vanilla bean pod
The millions of colors of skin this world offers
And how ours would look mixed together
Would they look like my sisterss or yours?
Our fire and darkness passed down to a child
My cheeks, your nose, my eyes, your hair
Mixed and matched into our child... Ours...
One that would never exist in this world
I've never had that want before or since...
It died when we went our separate ways
Could you imagine a child of two true Aries?
The world our child would have lived in
And in those seconds of that echo of want
I remind myself to let go of them
Those combined traits of personality and looks
The thought of their voice... Their laugh
Hoping that in the world where we had them
That they are safe, loved and thriving
That we were the parents we could have been
Just have to hide that bleed through
And remember my reasons for their non-existence
