Silence

They say that silence is golden
I’m starting to understand its value...

As the suns rays creep past my curtains
Like a nervous lover, sneaking away,
trying to escape
The penalty of their infidelity
And I hear the birds herald the start of a new day
I sit myself down, close my eyes,
shut out the world and bring in the light

Silence used to be an uncomfortable inconvenience to me,
laden with assumptions and
heavy with accusations
Was that in my mind or in theirs?
Today, I’d sit with your silence forever
if it meant I didn’t have to hear your stream of consciousness
fall from your mouth like an uninvited guest

Whoever knew that I would hear so much in the silence?
A new world is revealing itself slowly as I fall in love
with this feeling of peace, serenity, clarity...
I look forward to this pause,
this precious space to focus on the rhythm of my breath
and the beat of my own vibration

They say  that silence speaks volumes
it brings a powerful message,
it’s can be the things that widens the chasm between us
in what is left unsaid or
become the bond that binds us together,
if what needs to be said
comes to the fore

Some silence can be louder than words
I’ve often wondered if, given the choice,
I’d rather be blind or deaf
Whether it would be a blessing or a curse
to be blind to the horrors of the world
but hear music and understand words with a capacity
 that didn’t exist before

In the silence I once feared,
I find peace, acceptance, humility and guidance.
Everything I was desperately searching for
was inside all along
I no longer have to wander in the darkness
as my torch burns dimmer with each passing moment
Now I can wander in my own darkness, without fear,
because I have a light that will always guide me
and will never go out.

Things I could not live without
now flow in an unending abundance
from the fountain, I have found within
The most simple things in life
hold the keys to joy and sanity...
in silence, I have found answers
In ritual, I have found magic
And In prayer,
I have found a way
to bring intention into the day
