If I was still teaching Japanese poetry at school I would use this beautiful tanka to hook the kids...you have captuerd the very essence of wabi-sabi in each and every word, A. I bow!

I would love to hear the inspiration behind the title word "blossomary". It is such a unique word that does not seem to exist outside of names of businesses and Internet profiles, but is perfect regardless, like beastiary is for monsters.

tentaculary I: sea anemone
sea anemone
brined surfrider at the bottom
of a nippy pool-
critters skitter by until
fingers pluck ~ small fish are doomed

The brevity and font feels so spiritual. It's filled with peace and appreciation.
Stunning work.

For such a short piece the structure of this is clever. Widening, or ”blossoming”, from that ”single anemone” to the swarm of insects to the human fingers.

I've got to get around to answering all these great comments. I just wanted to say it's nice to see you back, Jack. You and your poetry have been missed.
Thank you for the astute observation.
