Little Green Child
Little green child,
let me love you.
I am not your mother,
But I know her
And she gave you away
to me; she knew
I needed you.
Little green child,
I’ve watched you grow
And I stand back,
Amazed; I watch
your green fingers
reach up and touch
the sun and sky.
Little green child,
a piece of my heart,
you’ll always have.
And with every petal
that becomes victim
to my negligence,
my heart breaks a little more.
Little green child,
you always teach me
how to be better.
If I looked after
all of my friends
the way I do you,
they’d feel as loved as they are.
let me love you.
I am not your mother,
But I know her
And she gave you away
to me; she knew
I needed you.
Little green child,
I’ve watched you grow
And I stand back,
Amazed; I watch
your green fingers
reach up and touch
the sun and sky.
Little green child,
a piece of my heart,
you’ll always have.
And with every petal
that becomes victim
to my negligence,
my heart breaks a little more.
Little green child,
you always teach me
how to be better.
If I looked after
all of my friends
the way I do you,
they’d feel as loved as they are.
