Tree Hugger
I came across
a gnarled tree
with broken limbs
and wilted leaves
its withered bark,
with scars beneath
reminded me
of me
I had a great epiphany
and in an act
of empathy,
I wrapped my arms
around her trunk
and wept below
her canopy
questioning my sanity
I felt the heart
beneath her bark
living, breathing
into me
and in that moment
I could see
I’m not so different
from the tree
and I found peace
sinking
into silken grass
listening to
an earthen symphony,
raindrops dripping
on the ground
around me
the sound of nature's timpani
resting my eyes
on the forest floor,
restored
once more
to serenity;
I awaken
with a gentle roar,
and a feeling
of transcendency
a gnarled tree
with broken limbs
and wilted leaves
its withered bark,
with scars beneath
reminded me
of me
I had a great epiphany
and in an act
of empathy,
I wrapped my arms
around her trunk
and wept below
her canopy
questioning my sanity
I felt the heart
beneath her bark
living, breathing
into me
and in that moment
I could see
I’m not so different
from the tree
and I found peace
sinking
into silken grass
listening to
an earthen symphony,
raindrops dripping
on the ground
around me
the sound of nature's timpani
resting my eyes
on the forest floor,
restored
once more
to serenity;
I awaken
with a gentle roar,
and a feeling
of transcendency
