A friend called grief

-
I see you’re once more acquainted
with a friend that lingers, restlessly
and life is once more tainted
by the stains left by your tears

It visits when you least expect it
and fills you with its hue
when it knocks, in you let it
and allow it to take over you

As you should, for it’s there to aid
it eases the pains that death inflicts
pulls you out of the gloom unscathed
with slow, and steady, baby-steps

grief is the friend that lingers
a friend that every human knows
even though pain tries its best to hinder
life, for those that death has chose

Author's Note
My girlfriend recently lost her uncle and she’s been inside a bubble of sadness and this is something I wrote because that event inspired me. It might sound wrong? I don’t know, I feel sorry that we humans have to experience loss no matter what and it just struck me that grief is our only companion at such times.
