"You are what you eat."

Many of us have heard this saying. Maybe as a taunt or a way for parents to get you to stop eating Cheeto puffs.
But how could I possibly turn into a pumpkin pie if I ate three slices of it?

I think it is more than this. A recent rom-com I read described the main female character wanting to just eat up the face of her boyfriend. This may seem unrelated and cliche, but is realistic for the way one feels when they feel so much love for one thing. A similar situation occurs when one's grandparent pinches your cheeks and says, "I could just gobble you up whole!" They don't mean this literally of course, but they just love you so much that they just want to kiss you all over your face.

Many people just love to eat, so that could be the true origin for this silly saying. But on the other hand, if we take this phrase and interpret what it could mean metaphorically, then the sky is the limit. What if it was really talking about what we take in to our bodies? How does food relate to love? It's this hunger that takes over your whole body at some moments, if it gets out of hand. But it can also be so good for you, and it can build you up to be stronger and healthier than before.

What we love and who we love have a huge impact on the way we act ourselves. We take up little habits and sayings of the people we surround ourselves with. If we love things that don't provide substance then as a result, we lose substance. If we love something that is good for us, or inspires us to be a better person, we can't help but to change because of it. So really, it could be said: We are what we love.
