The Epic Novel

Your life is an epic novel
With you as the Hero of the story
Who is put forth to not only fight the good fight,
But battle the inner demons of criticism, self-doubt, and fear.
 
With surprises along the way,
You the Hero must determine your responses
To the challenges of everyday life,  
Its trials, and tribulations.
 
Many times the enemy is unknown,
But its presence is felt through moments of trepidation,
You just know something is not right.
Does the Hero push forward or settle for what is?
 
Each loss or retreat, if not purposeful,
Diminishes and weakens our Hero.
Will you lay down and step aside,
Or rise to the occasion and confront your apathy?
 
If I only I had a Muse to guide and inspire me.
Awe, but the Muse does not seek,  
It only confirms what you already know.
Who is the writer of your life's story.
 
As you live your epic novel, ask yourself,
Are you The Writer or The Reader?
Will it have a happy or tragic ending?
It's up to you, and only you to determine.
