Faith and Fate

I wonder how or why they sound quite the same. Ethymology?  Why so close and yet so far....only the first question.    You can't buy faith like ber at the store.  You have or you do not.  True, Nature hates a void so if you do not have faith in point A, you'll have your own sort of faith in point B somewhere.   As for fate.....not much to do with faith unless you are a believer in predestination.  Question is,  even with your faith, are you then predestined to go to hell or heaven?  So who or what determines your fate?  Or is fate a pure luck of the draw?
