[ Birthday 2020 ] Light Day
It feels like forever
since the last occasion
I gifted you a poem
---wasn't so long ago
or a special day at all
I recall
but simply a pond'ering
I felt froggy about --- leaping
legal pads in pretend leather
binding together my usual
croaked absurdities ( hardly
ribeting reading material )
during what seemed
an insufferable summer
due to climate changing
a global virus rearranging
our notions of normality
murderous hornets amok
swarming outside lockdown's
banality
and then there was the whole
"Swamp" thing having yet to be
drained as promised by the most
reptilian of politicians ...
Yet, here you are still stepping
lively on this sixty-first lily
---a wet and wild, miled stone
of no particular importance;
as if the inital five dozen
ever truly posed any
because you know
as I have likewise learned
from the get-go
age is a silty channel of mind
one slowly syncs into over time
as if a drunkard in a booth;
a sedimentary lifestyle
though it only takes a tad pull
to free one from the muck
Never born on the bayou
we are only passing through
in search of rainbow connections
As luck would have it any other way
I finally found mine a few years back
despite the Post Office's insistance
it was delivered November 5, 1959
I must have overlooked it
because of being colored blind
while to this very day
you remain a dazzling
prismatic ray of
Light
