"Heavy on the scene"

Going to a concert at the old Straight Theatre...one night back in '66…

The guys in the band were friends of mine...and I was on the list…

I got to the guard who was on the gate …he checked his board for my name.

It's not here he said...and looked once more...the girl at his side did the same.

Maybe it's listed with someone else said the young lady...as they looked once more...

But my name wasn't there…'twas abundantly clear...and the chick was becoming...inured

She looked hard at the guard and said...sotto voce..."Ray, let her in…I know her… she's heavy on the scene."

As I walked through the door and out onto the floor...I contemplated
"the scene"

Sometimes it pays to be over the top...dressed to the nines...so to speak.

and I had a bitchin' wardrobe… from the thrift stores all along Haight Street.
